Communica's Social Media Get A New Look

March 26, 2012

Today, information is shared at speeds that are so fast it continues to amaze us. A few hundred years ago another revolutionary mass media tool, the printing press, allowed us to print large quantities of documents to disseminate information to whomever we could reach. However, each time information was printed there was a production cost, a delivery cost, and it took time. Now, the digital age allows us to put information out into the universe and reach an almost infinite number of people at relatively no cost and in real time. A great illustration of this is the 2011 uprising in Egypt where anti-government activists came together and used Facebook and Twitter to plan events that brought together tens of thousands of people to protest against the existing Egyptian government. The Egyptian government tried blocking all social media, but was not successful. Ultimately, there is no denying that the ability of social media sites to enable users to share information creates an unparalleled amount of information exchange that is changing the way we communicate.

A communications agency not being involved in social media today would be akin to a newspaper a few hundred years ago not adapting to the printing press. Thus, you would be hard pressed to find a communications agency that has not adapted
to the digital age. However, starting a social media account is much more than simply launching and posting. A true key to successfully managing social media platforms is to continue to refine, assess and strategize for new developments. In other words, social media needs to be used in the same way as all other communication media in terms of being strategic, well thought out, and in line with business objectives.

At Communica we understand the importance of continually refining and evolving our social media platforms. Today, we are proud to announce the launch of our redesigned Twitter and Facebook accounts. The new designs give us a consistent look and feel for all our online communications tools, and are consistent with our overall approach to corporate branding.

With more than ten years of experience helping clients to communicate with and engage stakeholders about different projects, we recognize that new and evolving ways to share information and create connections can be a great asset. Social media can assist us with our marketing and business development requirements; it can help with recruiting; and it has potential as a public consultation tool.

In addition, the personal connection that face-to-face information sharing brings is important to ensure that you continue to create a unique personal connection and encourage visitors to continue to follow you and learn more about what you do.

Communica understands the importance of fostering and growing connections with stakeholders, and using a wide range of communication tools and techniques to connect with people. One way this can be done effectively with a relatively low cost is in the design of your online presence, and we can help clients develop and use social media to meet their communication needs. Please check out our recently launched Twitter and Facebook pages, and to learn more about our approach to social media you can view our social media policy.

As always, we are very interested in your feedback. Please let us know what you think about our new social media designs.
